• Multi-faceted games can include elements which strengthen different intellectual skills, such as drawing, building, and word puzzles.
• Skill games can increase physical strength.
• Kids can learn about friendly competition, not just about winning and losing.
• Game time provides an opportunity for you to teach your children life skills such as patience,
concentration, teamwork, honesty, and integrity.
• Set up a scheduled time and date; put it on your family calendar.
• Find games that are age appropriate for your children. If your family varies in age either go with the
youngest, or pair younger family members with older members.
• If the game is new, read the directions ahead of time. (That goes for men too!)
• Discuss good sportsmanship before you start playing.
• Have a variety of games to prevent boredom.
Whether you choose a vintage or new board game, an addicting card game, computer games, or other children’s electronic games doesn’t matter. Any game is a great and inexpensive way to spend time together no matter what ages your families are. After all, you only have to buy the game once; it’s the snacks for game time that cost you! Seriously though, the most important part of a successful game night truly is choosing age appropriate games. Whether your children are preschool age, elementary age, or teens, they each have their own challenges.
